Wal-Mart - Augusta, ME
Saturday, July 10, 2004 - 1:30pm by Lolo
385 miles and 7 hours from our last stop - 1 night stay
Travelogue
I’m embarrassed to admit it, but the mention of a Wal-Mart always brings me happy feelings and fond memories—but I have a good explanation. Wal-Mart parking lots are often the first overnight stop on one of our cross country adventures. Those first days are usually very long driving days, just trying to get within striking distance of our first real destination. Why spend the money on a commercial campground, when all you need is a place to sleep? Once it gets dark and the shades are pulled down, you can pretend you’re anywhere, so a Walmart’s just as good a place as any to stay on these kind of nights.
I think some of my happiest moments on an RV trip are these first nights in a Wal-Mart. The whole trip is ahead of us, spirits are high, and we haven’t had a chance to get on each other’s nerves yet.
Description
Wal-Mart Supercenters allow RVs to park in their parking lots over night since they are open 24 hours. This particular Wal-Mart was located in a shopping mall. However, the stores other than Wal-Mart closed at 9:00 p.m.
